VIOFO A229 Plus Front and Rear 2K Dash Cam with Dual STARVIS 2 HDR

The VIOFO A229 Plus is a two-channel front and rear dash cam built with two Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 image sensors. It records 2K video from both cameras and adds HDR, multi-system GPS, 5GHz Wi-Fi, voice control, and three parking recording modes.

Design & Build Quality

The A229 Plus uses a compact front and rear camera design for flexible installation inside most vehicles. Its small camera units help preserve the driver's forward view while maintaining coverage of the road and rear area.

The system is designed for windshield and rear-glass mounting. A microSD card is not included. VIOFO High Endurance cards in 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB capacities are recommended for continuous dash cam recording.

Core Features & Technology

Dual 2K recording

Both channels record at 1440P, capturing road conditions, vehicles, and license plate details when lighting and distance are suitable. The front camera supports up to 60fps when HDR is disabled.

Dual Sony STARVIS 2 sensors

Two Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensors improve light sensitivity and dynamic range compared with the previous STARVIS generation. This helps reduce noise and motion blur during night recording.

Front and rear HDR

HDR balances bright and dark areas to retain more detail in high-contrast scenes. When HDR is enabled, the front camera cannot record at 1440P 60fps.

Multi-system GPS and 5GHz Wi-Fi

The GPS module supports GPS, BeiDou, Galileo, and GLONASS. It records vehicle location, speed, and time data for playback. 5GHz Wi-Fi supports faster video preview, downloads, sharing, and setting adjustments through the VIOFO app.

Voice control and parking recording

The camera supports 12 voice commands, including taking a photo, locking a video, turning on Wi-Fi, and switching between front and rear views. Parking modes include Auto Event Detection, Time Lapse, and Low Bitrate. The HK4 hardwire kit is required and sold separately.

Real-World Setup & Usability

Mount the front camera on the windshield, connect the rear camera, and route the cable along the vehicle trim. Insert a compatible memory card, format it, and configure resolution, clip duration, and recording settings through the menu.

The VIOFO app lets users preview footage, take photos, download files, and change settings over 5GHz Wi-Fi. Check and format the memory card regularly, especially during continuous use or parking monitoring.
